I am so proud to be able to call myself a published writer! I've been working on my CV recently, which has allowed me to see when and where my works have been published over the years. I want to share the list so far, and to let you know that I'll be adding to it very soon.
{My activism takes on many forms. Published in the 2019 print edition of Vortex Literary Magazine.}
This semester, I am enrolled in a "Forms of Poetry" course so I can learn about the various types before I take the "Poetry Workshop" next semester. We have had a few workshop days already in which a number of students bring their own poems to be read and critiqued by the rest of the class. I brought this one I wrote outside of class to my workshop day. It doesn't fit any specific form that we have covered so far, but rather my own free verse.
I've been trying to write poetry more recently and I wanted to share some of my favorites (which is kind of funny because I usually don't like any of my writing oops).
**All credit for the titles of my poems goes completely to the Avett Brothers. I didn't come up with them. I simply thought of how their songs connect to my own work and incorporated their lyrics. They are one of my biggest inspirations and I wanted to include them somehow. I wrote this for my Intro to Creative Writing class last month as my first writing project. I thought it would be fun to set up a story like this from three different viewpoints. I've never actually played with comedic writing this much and I didn't think my story was all that humorous until some classmates read it and told me so and then my instructor sent me an email about how he was laughing aloud in his office while reading it. That was cool.
I hope you find it enjoyable, as well. Oh, and if you can find the Avett Brothers lyric I slipped in (I know, I know, but it was "because [I] had to"), well, that's pretty cool too. Thank you so much for reading!! :) For my Introduction to Poetry class I took my first semester of college, our final essay had to connect themes from the poems we read in class to modern works. Naturally, I knew I had to find a way to connect the two poems I chose to the Avett Brothers. And I did. I love seeing all the different connections and incorporating Avett into practically anything, especially if it's for an assignment in which I am able to choose my subjects. I also think it's interesting how closely the lines of the poetry related to the lyrics of the songs. This four-page paper received an A (95%), so I hope it's enjoyable!
