I've seen this challenge circulating on social media, and I thought it would be fun to do on here. For this format, I'll be posting it in three parts with ten songs each instead of posting daily. I guess it's not much of a "challenge" that way, but I'll still have to be particular in my choices. Enjoy!
Found some new music. Listen, absorb, love, share, repeat. Also, the first 8 songs will be by female bands/artists because I've been trying to find more of them to listen to recently and you should, too!
My vinyl collecting was super slow this year and I didn't acquire as many records as I had hoped, but I am excited about my new additions!
CHRISTMASTIME IS HERE! We are less than 10 days away!! I've been too busy with finals, so I wasn't able to write this post starting on the actual 12 days leading up to it.
It's still September, but I'm hecka excited for October (mainly Halloween!) so I thought I'd make a list of fun spooky tunes for you guys to enjoy. And no, this list does not include those annoying cheesy Halloween party songs or 'Thriller'. You're welcome.
I found this British band several years ago (I think I was in seventh grade at the time), listened to them for a while and then I stopped (don't ask why; I have no idea). I had three of their songs on my little iPod Nano. They've released a couple more albums since then and I'm really obsessing over them right now. The lead singer's voice and songwriting have improved tremendously and I'm kinda in love. Also I watched a bunch of their live videos five nights in a row last week, yes I did.
This year has been huge for me in the vinyl world. I got my first record player last December and my collection has steadily grown to 23 albums (not individual records, some are double LPs). I thought I'd share my current collection with you all now since the year is over and I'll update it at the end of next year and so on. Because of course I'm not done.
Asterisks (**) indicate the albums I recieved at Christmas. All of the rest were either bought by me or my dad earlier in the year. I'm going to see my second favorite band for the first time next week! I thought I'd mix it up and instead of doing a full Spotlight, I'm making a list of my favorite lyrics first, to show how stunning Tyler Joseph's lyricism is--it is, after all, the main aspect that reeled me in. And let me also mention that I originally had a list of over 80 of my favorite twenty one pilots lyrics from their four albums, but I'm gonna be cheesy and list 21 of them for now.
It's been three years since Magpie and the Dandelion came out, and every time the Avett Brothers have sang a "new" song on-stage since, I have wondered how much longer my ears would have to wait patiently before they could be blessed again with a new album. Last year, they had been singing more recently-written tunes with working titles like "Method Actor" (which didn't make it to this release; hopefully it'll be on a third Gleam EP), "Angel Wings" (which later became "Mama, I Don't Believe"), and "True Sadness". It wasn't until March 13 of this year that the Brothers sang the main single, "Ain't No Man", live for the first time at McDowell Mountain Music Festival. A day later, Seth wrote a letter to fans announcing that True Sadness would be coming out on June 24. I was ecstatic.
Now that the album has been out for a few weeks, I wanted to try something new for my blog: a full album track-by-track review, with special guest writer Dylan Turner! Hooray for finally doing Part 2 in this series! I've compiled a ranking of my top 15 favorite covers by my favorite band. They've covered many great artists and songs very well. Read Part 1 here if you missed my personal favorites list.
I've been putting this one off for a while, because Weezer is one of those bands that just has too many great songs and it was pretty hard to cut the list down to a mere 15. I tried to pick songs I love that less people know, so while I absolutely love all the singles like "I Want You To" and "Say It Ain't So" and classics like "My Name Is Jonas", they won't be on this list. Maybe another list, another time. Since I'll be seeing them in concert soon, I decided it was time to compile this one.
**Songs are listed in chronological order by album, which is why the list is not numbered Rivers Cuomo Wrote a Song for the Monkees's NEW Album and I Don't Know What to Do with Myself6/4/2016 Yes, the Monkees are STILL making music. And yes, the frontman of WEEZER wrote a song for them. And I've gotta tell you all about it.
I recently found this remarkably talented and extraordinary band and it has quickly moved to my top ten, I think. They're more obscure, though, so a lot of their earlier songs aren't even on YouTube. But they have a bandcamp where you can get a couple of their albums for free! Since they're newer on the scene, I was actually able to choose just 5 favorite songs, so enjoy the semi-brevity. ;)
Since I don't already have enough, I thought I might as well start a new series (and of course it's in the music section). These are just songs that I have come across either during the past few months or ones that I am currently putting on repeat. I don't necessarily listen to these bands all the time like I do the ones I choose to feature in spotlights. I also won't go into as much depth with these unless I feel the need to for some reason.
This is a multiple part spotlight because The Avett Brothers truly deserve all the spotlights. Just listen to their entire discography—believe me, that is the spotlight hahaha. Anyway, here are my personal favorite 15 songs (because narrowing it down to 10 just wasn't possible), in chronological order—obviously I can't choose an ultimate favorite:
There are just 17 days left until I get to see Panic! live for the first time (you better believe I have a countdown!), so I thought I'd highlight my favorite songs by them this time. They've changed a lot in 10 years and "they" has recently become "he", as Brendon Urie is the sole remaining member. Bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris, and drummer Dan Pawlovich now only accompany Brendon on tour--they no longer contribute creatively.
I think it's going to be wayy too hard to feature just five songs so I may do ten, oops heh. PSA: The Avett Brothers sang a new song last night. You NEED to hear it. It's vital to your survival. No joke. I've already listened to it more than 5 times in a row and it's already my favorite. Get ready to clap/stomp/sing along. (And look at Seth just jammin' out; it's great)
UPDATE: They just announced that their new album 'True Sadness' will be coming out on June 24!! The Killers have definitely been killin' it through my speakers lately. I'd say they've easily made it into my Top 5 favorite bands along with The Avett Brothers, twenty one pilots, Weezer, and Panic! At the Disco--quite a wide variety of genres, I know. I was going to do a Song of the Moment for them, but I can't just pick one song to feature because out of all of their 80+ songs (yes, I've heard ALL of them), there are only about 12-15 that I don't care for.
With that said, I'd like to introduce a new series called Spotlight where I will talk about my favorite bands and link more than just one song to give everyone a better idea of what the band is like. IN doing this, I really hope you will be inspired to start listening to these amazing artists (if you haven't been already). Keep reading for a few of my favorite Killers songs! Genre: Garage rock |
