Oh, the fifties and sixties--my favorite time period in all of history! I love the movies, the singers, the and the fashion. Here are some styles I love/yearn to wear:
1. saddle shoes
Also known as casual oxfords, these are by far my favorite shoe! They are stylish, comfortable, go with almost anything, and come in many different styles and colors. So far, I own four pairs and I don't expect to stop there.
2. Full skirt
These skirts are just the right length and are really flattering.
3. Horn-rimmed and Cat-eye glasses/sunglasses
Buddy Holly, Audrey Hepburn, all the cool people wore these.
4. Pleating, flares, and petticoats
Flared skirts are obviously pretty much the same as full skirts, but with pleats and petticoats, they are even more full. Petticoats were worn under dresses and skirts to make them bigger and poofier.
My other favorite shoe! These are cute, comfortable, and classic. Some early forms of Keds were even similar to Converse styles. Now, they come in almost all colors and various patterns and designs.
6. kitten heels
Can you say "easy to walk in"? These are still professional without making you too uncomfortable. And Audrey Hepburn wore them, so you know you need them.
7. High-waisted shorts and pants
You can pretty much find these anywhere now (skinnies and wider legs), and for a decent price, too. They make you look both taller and slimmer and can be both casual and dressy.
8. Anything Twiggy Wore
9. Geometric prints
Geometric prints are bold, fun, mod, and eye-catching.
10. box dresses
A simple, loose, and comfortably mod silhouette.
This would be the number one thing I would change about modern fashion if I could. Necklines today are plunging and revealing, whereas in the '50s, necklines were high and classy. I love bateau necklines!
12. edith head!
As a film costume designer, Edith was nominated for and won many awards for her amazing designs. She designed looks for everyone from Grace Kelly to Audrey Hepburn.
I'm in love with the idea of a one-piece outfit. You can find these almost everywhere these days, as they are coming back in style.
14. tent dress
These are similar to box dresses but a slightly different shape.
